Communication
Communication between teachers and parents is essential to the educational development of children. Ongoing communication is important for enhancing relations between parents and teachers. Weekly activities are highlighted and are sent home each week as well as a monthly newsletter. Parents know in advance what themes we will be working on. We have an open door policy and encourage parents to participate in their child's early education. Our back to preschool parent night is very informative and gives parents a chance to meet other parents. We also arrange parent-teacher conferences in the fall and spring to discuss the individual progress of all children.
Discipline - Guiding Children
Keeping children physically safe is important to us. Young children often move and respond without thinking about the consequences of their actions. We will often talk to children about what could happen, and offer acceptable ways of behaving, before a problem occurs. We think it is important to offer children suggestions of appropriate behavior so that they may begin to learn to problem-solve and make appropriate choices. We will often use alternatives to time-out. We feel that there are other ways to help children pull themselves together that are not as restrictive. Young children have a hard time waiting or sitting still for long periods. We feel it is important to schedule an even balance of quiet and active developmentally appropriate activities.
The Preschool Workshop does not discriminate on the basis of race, religion, sex, and national origin.
