Cindy has been in the field of Early Childhood Education, developing curriculum for young children and teaching since 1981. She has taught in Bermuda, Delaware and Pennsylvania. The Preschool Workshop is the second Early Childhood Program she has created and directed.
Eligibility
Children age three through six may attend our morning or extended day programs. We would prefer that children are toilet trained before they begin attending our school. Preschool through kindergarten age children are enrolled in our multi-age classroom setting. Our developmental philosophy encourages children to accept others with different skill levels and personalities. We strive to meet the needs of all children, focusing on their individual needs. Another aspect of our program is to provide before and after school care for kindergarten and first grade children who attend Avon Grove Charter School and Penn London Elementary School. The Preschool Workshop does not discriminate on the basis of race, religion, sex and national origin.
Our Classrooms and Interest Centers
Children learn through play. This is an important component in our philosophy. Our classrooms contain interest centers that are designed to encourage children to make independent choices and develop important social and academic skills as they play.
Classroom interest centers are:
Art and Writing, Activity Trays, Block-Building, Dramatic Play and Library in our classroom lofts, Manipulatives, Math, Sensory Table, Science and Workbench. Additional interest centers are regularly created to support and enhance a particular curriculum theme. As our monthly themes change throughout the year, so will the materials that are offered in centers. Additional materials will be added as the year progresses and the children mature and strengthen skills.
Additional / Extended Hours
We are able to offer additional care for children enrolled in our school as needed, providing that care is arranged in advance and that there is space available. Parents will need to request in writing of the day they would like their child to stay for extra care, e.g. before school care (7:00-8:30 AM) lunch and extended day (11:30 AM -2:30 PM) or the full day (11:30 AM -5:30 PM). Tuition is paid for the additional care on the day that it occurs.
Additional Programs
Music and Spanish lessons are offered on site for the children. Parents pay additional tuition for the lessons. Registration information is mailed to parents in August.
